After the tragic events of the Tsunami on Boxing Day 2004, I was asked to report on how the Maldives had been affected, and how the people and marine life were recovering a few months after the event. Tragically there were around 84 deaths in the Maldives archipelago relating to the Tsunami, as well as some damage to property and infrastructure, but much less than seen elsewhere in Southeast Asia. I was impressed by the resilience of the people and how they dealt with the event. I was also pleasantly surprised that marine life had been largely unaffected. Any pre-trip concerns were quickly shown to be unfounded and I came away with a very positive view of the future for this stunning location. You can read a full report of my Maldives trip
I'm always working on new projects so keep an eye on the magazines. I write under my own name for Diver magazine and the pseudonym Scott Macdonald for Dive, Sport Diver, Scuba World and Scottish Diver. In February 2006 I made my broadcasting debut on BBC Radio, and it is definitely something I hope to do more of in the future.
